SERVICE OFFER
EIGHT CORE SERVICES
We collaborate with social workers, families, commissioners, and housing teams to ensure every child receives the best possible level of care.

Therapeutic Residential Care
We provide tailored therapeutic practices. Our care is based on the PACE and Secure Base models (see below), and our team has received PRICE training in de-escalation and positive behaviour support.

Crisis and Emergency Placements
Available 24/7, our crisis and emergency placements offer immediate, comprehensive care, bringing stability to high-risk situations. We deliver professional therapeutic support to children who are in crisis or facing placement breakdowns.

Solo Complex Needs Provision
Our Solo Complex Needs Provision service is for children with specific risk, trauma, or sensory needs. Delivered with a 2:1 staffing ratio, this service addresses complex behaviours and trauma histories. It also ensures each child benefits from a calming environment with minimal external stimuli.

Dual Placements (SEMH/ASD)
Our dual placements are designed for up to two children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH) or neurodevelopmental conditions, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They offer a homely environment, structured routines, and 1:1 staffing for each child.

Trauma-Informed Practice (PACE, Secure Base)
Our team is trained to deliver the PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy) and Secure Base Models, which aid emotional development and help children heal from trauma through empathy, structure, and positive relationships.

Education and Academic Support
We know education is a right, not a privilege. That’s why we go above and beyond to give our children personalised education, even if they cannot attend mainstream school settings. This education can be accessed through local schools or in-house learning plans.

Training and Clinical Consultation
Our staff can adapt to children’s evolving needs thanks to the extensive training they receive. Our training programme includes PACE, Secure Base, and PRICE training, ligature training, equality and trauma awareness, and more.

Transition Planning and Aftercare Support
We prepare children for life after care by assisting them in areas such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, benefits, and employment. This support enables them to live independently and build sustainable, connected futures.
therapeutic models
THREE KEY MODELS
At Above and Beyond, we use these three key models to harbour positive relationships with the children in our care.
SECURE BASE MODEL
Drawn from attachment theory and adapted to include an additional element of family membership, the Secure Base Model outlines five dimensions of caregiving. These dimensions are interrelated, with each contributing to a specific area of the child’s development. By integrating this model into our therapeutic care, we help ensure that our children feel confident, competent, and resilient.
PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy)
The PACE model, developed by Dr Dan Hughes, helps create a safe, nurturing environment in which children feel seen, heard, and valued. Working to this model allows us to build trust with our children while supporting emotional regulation and fostering long-term healing.
The CoProSo Approach
The CoProSo Approach takes a different approach to responding to children who exhibit ‘challenging’ behaviours, assuming “children and young people do well if they can”. Inspired by the work of Drs Ross Greene and Naomi Fisher, this approach is trauma-informed, solution-focused, child centered, and backed by research carried out over the past 50 years.
OUR REFERRAL PROCESS
We welcome referrals for children aged 7 to 17 who require therapeutic residential care. Whether for emergency, short-term, or long-term placements, our referral process is responsive, transparent, and person-centred.
